Yeah, but I'm lazier & probably a worse typist. & I can hardly read 
the white-on-black that Apple has foolishly used on this kbd.

Yeah, that makes it doubly mysterious - I have never had any trouble 
with either netbsd-help@NetBSD.org (sic - Copy&Pasted) or 
port-mac68k@netbsd.org (sic-ditto)
