...oh, and I *do* have libmad.so installed from somewhere.

...and ...pkgsrc/audio/mad exists, but doesn't have the requisite
buildkink file.


This is kind of irritating since a forced update of mplayer (due to
version bump of libraries) has wiped out my mplayer installation.
