This has been seen before.
Do you actually get a core file? If so it might just contain something
useful, if not it all gets hard :-(
Do you know which process dumps core?
It could be part of sysinst (there are a couple of children lurking).

I have a gut feeling there is a heap problem - so it could be tricky!
