can you check what the libfreetype.la file looks like? (if it's actually
there).  what version of XFree86 do you use?  what version of x11-links
do you have installed?  is your pkgsrc tree up to date and updated
consistently?  i don't really have an idea what's really happening, yet.
(i don't see this error on 1.6R, XF 4.2.1)
