In addition to the other suggestions, I would like to point out that
there is a package graphics/MesaDemos, which will compile and install a
large number of demos.

Note that if you want to execute them you will need to cd to the demo
directory, as many of the examples rely on relative paths when looking
for bitmaps etc.
