If it's the stingray shaped "Speedtouch" modem, then you will need to
install the driver from pkgsrc. You will find it in
pkgsrc/net/speedtouch. Alternatively, check the drivers home page at
http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/, where you will find documentation in
a number of languages (including French).

If it is not the stingray shaped modem, then I suggest getting a
different modem that includes one or more ethernet ports. These are far
less trouble to set up, and you can still use your NetBSD machine for
firewalling and NAT purposes, although you will require two network
interfaces.
