Hehe.  You tried with an earlier version than I did.  Installing just
the base system of 3.2 over FTP over a dialup 14.4 link took approx. 7
hours for me.  Including a few retries, because I hadn't read the
Handbook in great detail and messed up my partitions a couple of times :)
