So you've switched from using startx to using XDM in order to get
around having icewm and olvwm kill your X server?

Odd that that helps, but not really a solution for me.  I don't
care for XDM (and prefer to be able to decide my X server color
depth, rather than have it selected automatically).

(I also just prefer a console login, for some reason, even though
I spend most of my time in X.  Maybe it's because a console login
is more like an ssh login, which I do frequently?  Hm...)
