IceWM expects to fall back on xdm when killed. So just putting "icewm"
in "xinitrc" did indeed used to kill my X server when I would click
"logout" in IceWM. But not any more.

As soon as I had put "xdm" in the place of "icewm" in my "xinitrc"
moving that "icewm" to "~/.xsession" then did IceWM run just like KDE
had used to do.

Now IceWM will fall back to XDM at logout just like KDE had formerly
fallen back to KDM. So problem solved, yes?

Perhaps olvwm fans may do likewise with their favorite wm.

Regards,

Gan
