My results are as follows:
The tiff-3.5.7 package from NetBSD 1.6 (i386) dumps core.
The tiff-3.5.7 package from NetBSD 1.5 (i386) dumps core.
The tiff-3.5.5 package from NetBSD 1.5 (i386) does not dump core.

The results above are specific to the "fax2tiff" program.

I also am having this problem and it's driving me insane.  Has anyone been
able to correct this problem?
