After doing some tests, i've found that the inclusion of
/usr/local/lib/netscape/plugins/ in OPERA_PLUGIN_PATH that is the
culprit.

On my box:

[jaco@titine:/usr/local/lib/netscape/plugins]$ ls
ShockwaveFlash.class      nppdf.so
libflashplayer.so         plugger.so
