Subject: gcc 3?

I am very new to NetBSD (I am coming from Debian Linux). There seem to
be many up-to-date packages in NetBSD 1.5.2, with the notable exception
of gcc 3.x.

I am interested in trying out NetBSD on my workstation, but require gcc
3 in order to do that. Am I missing it, or is gcc 3.x not in the stable
release? I see that there is a -current branch, but could not find any
information on netbsd.org about what is in there. Does -current have
gcc 3? If so, would it be unwise to give NetBSD a test drive using
-current?

Thanks for any help.
