I asked the same question and was told that 1.5.3 was still coming out. I
have to admit that I was surprised to see 1.6 and 1.5.3 being released so
close together as I think many people will just move to 1.6.

In fact, I am writing this on a computer running 1.6 RC1 and except for the
page up and page down key not working in applications like vi, I have had
no problems. :)
