I normally copy them into /etc/rc.d, copy anything they've added in
/usr/pkg/etc to /etc/ and symlink it (.e.g /usr/pkg/etc/httpd -> /etc/httpd/),
and then jsut add a

service=YES to /etc/rc.conf.

Works for me, buyt it could be a fluke - I do it this way because it's
a lot simpler to back things up if all your config is under /etc

(lost two hard drives in a week last month, which may have unhinged me slightly).
