I just copied my active kernel to my home and tried it: it does
seem to find *something*.

(paul@green.paulbeard.org)-(09:48 AM / Thu Mar 14)
[/usr/home/paul]:: ls -l netbsd
-rwxr-xr-x  1 paul  users  3051140 Mar 14 09:48 netbsd
(paul@green.paulbeard.org)-(09:48 AM / Thu Mar 14)
[/usr/home/paul]:: ls -l /netbsd
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel  3406917 Feb 13 14:43 /netbsd
