(a) Excessive punctuation (????, !!!!, etc.... .... ....) is poor style
when composing English prose. (I am not conversant enough with other
natural languages to say where it may be acceptable.)
(b) Your Subject: line of a message, as a matter of email style, should
suggest something of the nature of the message. You've posted to
netbsd-help, so we *know* by the context that you *must* be using NetBSD
and are either asking for, or offering, help. Try using a more
informative subject line.
(b [part 2]) As others have indicated, you have really violated a bit of
etiquette by posting an MS-WINDOWS-only problem to a NetBSD-oriented list.
*Always* take the time to figure out where you send a message before you
fire it off blindly. (My apologies to other readers of this list for
being off-topic. But I thought that people should be reminded, as well,
that people make mistakes usually because they are underinformed about
proper behavior. I don't believe that you intended to be rude, and so
should have received more civil responses.)
(c) Your USB port would probably ``just work'' if you were using NetBSD.
In my limited experience, any new hardware being used by MS-WINDOWS seems
to always require its very own special driver. E.g., when I purchased a
USB<->parallel printer interface, it came with its own driver. But, since
I'm not using MS-WINDOWS, I just ignored the driver and plugged the device
in. It just worked, as expected.
My suggestions to improve your contentment:
* Ease up on the punctuation. If you don't appreciate why this is
important, I suggest that you spend a few months reading in your
spare time. Literature would be best; magazine and newspaper
articles would also work. This is a written medium, and clarity
of prose is essential to communicating your intent.
* Read mailing lists to get a sense of what makes for good email style.
Especially read a list for a while before you post to it. If you
continue to violate these rules (mostly of etiquette), you will only
garner ill-will by your poor manners. (You have done something
equivalent to jumping into a public swimming pool with muddy
feet.)
* If you are computer-literate, install NetBSD and you will be much
happier. NetBSD is reliable, functional and efficient, while generally
behaving in a consistant, expected manner. (But if you are not
computer-literate, it is fair to warn you that the NetBSD OS is perhaps
not the easiest thing to pick up.)
If you decide to install NetBSD, then welcome. If you do not use NetBSD,
please do not write further messages to NetBSD discussion groups. Thank
you, and good luck.
