This is not needed. By default, sendmail already lets you email out.

What do your logs say when you email to "myself" (or whatever that
particular username is).

Are you editing the correct aliases file? (Maybe /etc/mail/aliases.) (I
assume that the aliases database is being updated automatically; or run
newaliases.)
