The CD image you mention does not contain any X
software (well twm is on there and maybe some other
minor stuff), only the X server itself which is
XFree86 3.3.6. You'll have to get gnome from the
packages cd and install it after installation of the
OS is complete. Or compile it with pkgsrc.
