I am using the same version of mozilla and it works.

What does "ldd lib/mozilla/mozilla-bin" report?

Do you need to turn down the volume before certain startup scripts run?
Otherwise, what about sticking those two commands in /etc/rc.local and
leaving /etc/rc.d/* as they originally were?

Have you tried /usr/bin/cdplay?  Do you have more than one cd drive?
