Okay, I forgot one of Jeremy's suggestions. Along with
that is something I thought of myself. Here goes...

gus# telnet gateway4.att.net 25
Trying 204.127.134.23...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out
gus#
 Jeremy, thanks for reminding me.

gus# jot -s '' 1000 | mail -s "2894 characters" oinkfreebiker@att.net
gus# (echo "Subject: 2001 characters" ; echo ; jot -s '' -b 'x' +2000 )

...I recall that I showed my IPNAT files before. But know that this is
only one box (for now) with the USRobotics external modem in tty00. So
I'm not really using the IPNAT files yet (yet), thus I check...

gus#
gus# sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding
net.inet.ip.forwarding = 0
gus#

...and assume the above respons means that the IPNAT files are not
consulted by the OS and so this box doesn't get lost searching for
a gateway box on the local LAN, yes?

I'll get to Dave's suggestion next: the ping to gateway4.att.net and
all.
I only have the one line, and have to email only from the Win98 box.

Thanks,

Gan
