Sorry Bob, but I can only confirm that you are not alone -- I see the same
behaviour with acroread 4.05 on my 1.4.1, 1.4.2 and 1.5 i386 boxes. I
don't touch it anymore for that reason, but if I remember correctly it
also locks up X at the same time.
