I don't think this there was ever a PR open on this. When I ran into
the problem I asked Greg and it said it was fixed.

No. Your component appears as 'used_spare' in raidctl -s but that's not a
problem. Your raid if fully operationnal. At the next reboot the new component
will appear as normal one intsead of used_spare, now that the raidframe
header has been updated.
