It is documented in the INSTALL document, I think.
Otherwise you can look at the kernel config files:
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-release-1-5/src/sys/arch/i386/conf/

I think you want the 'INSTALL' kernel config file.
