Subject: "connect: Can't assign requested address" using netbsd1.5 when going off-subnet

Finally desiring benefits that 1.2 could not offer, I installed 1.5.
Installation went off without a hitch, except that I could not get the
network to work.

To be more specific, this machine is an AMDK6-2/450, 64Mb on an ASUS P5A.
My NetGear FA312 detects just fine (sip0), and DHCLIENT successfully
connects to my ISP's DHCP server.

The problem: I can't ftp or sup out to get the packages I want to install.
I get "connect: can't assign requested address".

I *can* telnet to hosts on the same subnet (which made me suspect my routing
configuration). BUT I can traceroute all the way to the hosts and ping
them, suggesting that the DHCP-supplied address and gateway are fine. Just
in case, I ifconfig'd the nic with an address obtained from a windows box
yanked off the wire-- same effect.

Am I forgetting something blitheringly obvious?

Thanks!
-Dave Christiansen
