Wouldn't it be better to insert a new case statement that specifically
uses NetBSD?

e.g.:

     NetBSD)
       VARRUN="/var/run"
       ;;
     *BSD)
       VARRUN="/etc/ppp"
       ;;
     *)
       VARRUN="/var/run"
       ;;


This may be submitted to the author of this program for inclusion in
any future releases.
