Hi,

FRU is the acronym of "Field Replacable Unit".

In IBM computers and HP printers FRUs are parts like memory or 
system boards, that can be replaced on site. I saw FRU codes on 
some seagate hawk drives that claim not to have on site repaceable 
parts.

Maybe the hardware manufacturer (either of the PC or more likely 
the harddrive) can help here.
