well...i wouldn't say "self-contained".  it *does* use rc.subr quite
extensively, with several subroutines, and run_rc_command (the main
one) does a *whole* bunch of stuff that i think i don't really care
about.  but i'm not sure.

now i just don't touch them and i'm okay.
