based on

% where ed ex vi view pico xedit joe emacs
   /bin/ed
   /usr/bin/ex
   /usr/bin/vi
   /usr/bin/view
   /usr/local/bin/pico
   /usr/X11R6/bin/xedit
   /usr/pkg/bin/joe
   /usr/local/bin/emacs

i'd say you'll at least need /usr, and if you use vi, you'll probably
also want /var. oh, and don't forget to set your term type. :)

ex/vi: Error: unknown: No such file or directory
