It does.  For the i386 architecture just hit the space bar when you
see the boot loader counting down the seconds.  At the `>' prompt
type:

boot -s

Once the system is up in single user do this:

fsck -y /
mount -u /

to check the fs and then mount the / file system r/w.  Depending on
your file system layout you may need to mount more file systems to get
vi (if you need it).

For the other architectures, I don't know.  The sparc I would hazard a
guess at "boot -s" from the open bootprom.
