First he has to convince everyone that this would be a good thing.  I see
two problems with it.  First, I may not want to export everything or,
if I do, I may want to mount it more efficiently.  Second, and more
important, people are using the system as it works now and any change
would break a lot of setups.  I'm not against painful change but I need
to be convinced that there is a substantial win for the pain.

At the very least, please make this an option that is set to the current
behaviour by default.
