By default, threads are not enabled for this package.  Presumably, I can
enable the use of pthreads by manually building Python.  (There is, I
hope, nothing tricky in the process...)  But, is there an undocumented way
to nudge the package to pass the build-option on to Python's own
configure/build scripts?  Or, even a documented way that I've missed?
