Well, their FFS filesystem isn't designed differently; it's based on the
same code as ours. One difference is that they have incorporated the
soft update code from Kirk McKusick, which, when enabled, does
help for lots of small files.

The soft update code was ported to NetBSD a while ago, but there
are still some bugs left there, and we need someone who has
time to work on it. I did the port, but can't work on it much anymore
now.
