I've had this problem too, for a time making me think their was a
problem with the sb0 config or the new soundcard ...and then I noticed
that there wasn't an audio amplifier, so it was a case of having to
supply my own.  I've also added "audioctl -w play.gain=255" to my
/etc/rc.local
