I'm jumping in in the middle here, don't mean to be a pedant, and
deserve any flaming I get if I misconstrued what you're getting at,
but don't you mean:

	cat boing.au > /dev/audio 
(and/or /dev/sound)?

If you really meant to cat the two files together, my apologies for
sticking my nose in, but I recall banging my head against subtly
incorrect help as a newbie so I thought it would be worth commenting.
