Try installing devel/glib. Did you use a binary package? I don't have
mc anymore, but I seem to remember that you can build and run it
without glib. Sometimes the configure script pulls in stuff on the
build system that it shouldn't, and so the binary ends up with
problems like this. In any case, it's a bug.
