I checked the FAQ on www.netbsd.org for the procedures for replacing an
INSTALL kernel. They reflect what needs to be done for 1.3.x. The same
procedures using a 1.4 boot.fs produce a gzip'd file "netbsd" as the sole
contents of the filesystem. Unzipping it I assume produces a filesystem
image-- but of what type?

Is it possible to replace a kernel and recompress the image, or should one run
through a makefile to produce an image?
