disklabel: no disk label

What does this mean? This was with a 1.3 bootdisk on a i386. My
overall problem is that I am trying to install NetBSD/arm32 for 2
friends. They each gave me a big disk. I left the usual riscpc
standard "master" small disk inside a working computer, took my big
disk out and swapped it with theirs. The first setup was no problem at
all (just wonder why ftp.ph.kcl.ac.uk seems just to have v1.3-alpha on
it), but the second friend's disk won't let me boot into RiscOS, it's
as if it is ignoring the slave jumper setting (Maxtor 71084AP), so I
popped said disk in a i386 with the above result. There was no
disklabel on it, but I just wanted some sort of disk access. I note
that the probe string had different odd control characters in it each
time, and that it probed 2105/16/31 instead of 2105/16/63 - did it get
that from the bios? So is the disk dead?

Any hints?

Cheers,

Patrick
