The message you are seeing indicates that ftp (as executed by sysinst)
terminated with a bad exit value. Perhaps DNS isn't set up right?
Or somehow the ethernet card didn't get initialized OK. Maybe you
could exit sysinst at this point (just interrupt or suspend it),
and check by hand if the ec0 interface is up (ifconfig ec0), or
if you can reach ftp.netbsd.org by just trying it from the shell.
