G'day,

It was a long time ago that I've updated my terminal server when I
build new binaries from the 20 June 1997 sup.

At compile time the following problems where noted:

ipftest didn't compile -

ip_nat.c:832: warning: passing arg 1 of `nat_inlookup' makes pointer
from integer without a cast
ip_nat.c:832: incompatible type for argument 2 of `nat_inlookup'
ip_nat.c:832: incompatible type for argument 3 of `nat_inlookup'
ip_nat.c:832: incompatible type for argument 4 of `nat_inlookup'
ip_nat.c:832: incompatible type for argument 5 of `nat_inlookup'
ip_nat.c:832: too few arguments to function `nat_inlookup'
*** Error code 1

I continued without building ipftest....

After succesfully building the rest of the tree I installed the
binaries and rebooted with the new Kernel.

This is where my trouble starts. After bootup, the system reconnects
to the ISP using a standard modem. The connect is succesfull as far as
the physical link is concerned but pppd seem to be unable in creating
the default route entry in the routing table. However, manual adding
the default route is succesfull.

Jun 22 11:24:39 dingo pppd[6059]: Serial connection established.
Jun 22 11:24:40 dingo pppd[6059]: Using interface ppp0
Jun 22 11:24:40 dingo pppd[6059]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/tty00
Jun 22 11:24:43 dingo routed[81]: Send sendto(ppp0,
139.130.136.5.520): Network is down
Jun 22 11:24:43 dingo pppd[6059]: local IP address 203.30.126.1
Jun 22 11:24:43 dingo pppd[6059]: remote IP address 139.130.136.5
Jun 22 11:24:58 dingo named[85]: ns_forw: sendto([139.130.4.4].53): No
route to host

The dialin lines are defined during bootup with the following entries:
arp -s async-1 0:20:af:6b:20:99 pub
arp -s async-2 0:20:af:6b:20:99 pub

This creates the following entries in the routing table:
203.30.126.130/32 00:20:af:6b:20:99 ULS2 0 0 -
ep0
203.30.126.131/32 00:20:af:6b:20:99 ULS2 0 0 -
ep0

For some reason, these entries disappear intermittendly. I can
reproduce this by switching the modems off. This was not the case with
the previous distributions. I can recreate the entry by issuing
arp -s async-1 00:20:af:6b:20:99 permanent pub. This will prompt me
with the following message:

Jun 22 11:35:13 dingo routed[81]: ignore RTM_ADD without gateway

Is ipf working? I am not getting any hits on my counters. I had ipf
running under netbsd-1.2A using the patches from the ipf soure tree.
I have remade all devices including /dev/ipl...

Are there any solution to the above problems? Your help is most
welcomed... ;)

cheerio Berndt
