Ok..., got this no worked out thanks to all of you... It never occured
to me checking for an older version on the system.

I had two versions of mountd as mentioned above. After removal of
the older version in /sbin I am now able to mount the nfs partition
after editing the /etc/exports configuration file.

Which version/configurations are needed to allow nfs without the
-noresvport option? At the moment I am running NetBSD-current-970423
and NetBSD-1.2.1...
