well, there are a few of us working on a freebsd-style ported softrware 
collection. This is, unfortunately a bit far off as an alternative for you. 
You can however check the FreeBSd ports collection stuff on www.freebsd.org.
It may be of some help. If nothing else it will give you home FTP sites for the 
packages you're looking for.
