Hopefully, this is the right place to ask for help about this...
if not, I apologise for this post.
I've been trying to install NetBSD 1.2/atari on my Falcon030/4MB
today, using the otherwise very straightforward installation program. The
first few setups went smoothly; after the install disks had been loaded
into RAM, I selected device sd1, as I have two hard drives. After this, I
made the 10MB D partition (0, GEM) into my swap partition (renamed to NBS)
and the 100MB I partition (5, BGM) into my root partition (renamed to
NBD). Yes, I want to use no more than these two partitions, as they are
the only ones that I can spare. However, the install text file gave me
the impression that it is possible to install NetBSD this way ("As
mentioned above, it is wise to make at least a separate root and /usr
^^^^
filesystem.").
This is when I ran into problems. Having used an AHDI-compatible
formatting program (SCSI-Tools, and ICD Boot as the driver), I'm not sure
what to change with edlabel, or whether I should change anything. I've
tried changing types for a (root) and b (swap), even c (disk), but I'm not
sure what they should be changed to, if at all (I've tried a few different
settings with the 4.2BSD, MSDOS and swap (which was mentioned in the
example, but not in the install text file) options, but with little idea
of what belongs where, it's pretty much shooting in the dark).
Then, there's the device/mount setup, which I don't understand
much of either. Root seems to default to sd1 /, which I assume is
correct, also I made the conclusion that I wouldn't need to add anything
here, as I want everything on the same partition as root. However, I'm
not sure if this is the case as I don't really know what this section is
all about.
But, so far these attempts have always resulted in the message
"Warning: unknown disklabel format" and "newfs: /dev/rsd1a: Device not
configured". Not wanting to risk installing the distribution sets after
these warnings, this is the point where I've exited the installation
program. So, I wonder if you could assist me through these steps in the
installation... any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Matti Koskimies
