I've been looking for a tape drive too, and also looked at this possibility.
It depends on how much you're gonna use it, I think. And when.

Travan tapes are relatively expensive. If you take a look at DAT
tapestreamers and tapes, you will see that, if you use this backup system a
lot, and use a wide number of tapes, the DAT streamer would become a real
opponent. And even the price for a 4 Gb DAT streamer isn't that high anymore.
But I must admit, this is only a suggestion, based on the price of the stuff.
I don't have a comparison, based on speed. (How fast is a DAT streamer ?)
I am using a 525 Mb QIC streamer now, because:
	1) My HP9000/300 boots from it (it's a ICL type 3, if youre
		interested. Cost: +- $250, tapes +- $10 pp)
	2) at work we use these type of tapes a lot. This makes it easier to
		tansfer data between work and home, until I've my leased-line.
