O.K. Supping seems to be working this time. Last night's seemed to
leave off a bunch of stuff, despite that it told me it was done.

But I am still confused: <from "upgrade">

The upgrade to NetBSD 1.2 is a binary upgrade; it would be prohibitive
to make users upgrade by compiling and installing the 1.2 sources, and
it would be very difficult to even compile a set of instructions that
allowed them to do so. Because of the many changes to the system, it
is difficult impractical to upgrade by recompiling from the sources
 and installing.

...

Given that I am running 1.1 currently, and am pretty familiar with
configuring and making the kernel, is there a real big change from 1.1
to 1.2? This seems like the same text for the upgrade from 0.9 to 1.0.

Are the boot blocks really changing?

As far as the new kernel and new programs go, I would assume I can do
this:

Make sure I have the new version of gcc compiled, along with libc,
etc.

Make a kernel. Try it out. If happy, go on to next step:

Go to /usr/src.
(comment out the "SUBDIR += sys" line in the Makfile?)
(comment out the SUBDIR += gcc in the appropriate Makfile)
make all
Test a few random things, especially things that interact with the
kernel in interesting ways, like ps and systat. Others?
make install
Everyone is happy?

Does this make sense? Are there dependencies that I have missed,
something with gas or whatnot?

Enquiring mines want to mow!
