Hi!
I'm trying to install NetBSD 1.1 on my home system right now, but I can't
get it to boot off of my hard drive. I only have one floppy, so I've
tried intalling the kernel before I install the distribution files. I am
installing it on my second hard drive (i.e. wd1), whose geometry is
(according to my CMOS set-up program, in LBA mode)
Cylinders Heads Sectors
619 64 63
with 512 bytes/sector
I have allocated space from cylinder 382 to cylinder 617 for use by
NetBSD. When I copy the kernel using the "copy_kernel" command, and
instruct it that my root partition is wd1a, everything seems to work
properly. When I reboot, it always boots me back into DOS (well...Win95,
but well all know that's just a kludge sitting on top of DOS). I was
wondering if you could give me some insight into what's wrong here. Do I
have to allocate space on drive 0 to boot into NetBSD? I don't want to
do that, as the space I put NetBSD into was previously two DOS logical
drives in an extended partition, and it was fairly simple to resize
without backing up approx. 700 megs of data, and reinstalling it.
Hope you might have some suggestions
