In the uploads area, you can upload a file, download it, etc. but you
cannot delete it or over write it.
I have seen this on other sites also. Maybe they are just hacking the
source.

There's no fool-proof way to do this under UN*X. Even if we had
separate write and delete permissions, you can always effectively
delete a file by writing an 0-length file on top of it.
Of course, you *do* have the source for ftpd. Have fun. :-)
