Is there a "religious" problem about using something like /etc/issue,
like most SYSV systems ? It seens to me something more practical than
editing gettytab, which (IMHO) should be used only for strange
setups, like initializing strange terminals, etc.

Maybe a configuration in gettytab to define the name of the "issue"
file, with a default value for /etc/issue. Is one does not want the
issue, for an specific line use /dev/null.
