I am having a problem getting my NetBSD node connected to our network
(running TCP/IP).
Here is what I know and have done:

1) The 3com ethernet card (3c509) was configured to use the UTP connector
via the DOS config utility

2) The autoconfig finds the card at the appropriate IRQ, base address, and
the MAC address and all this information appears to be correct based on the
report of the DOS 3com config utility.

3) I installed NETBSD from the DiscNet (InfoMagic disk) BSDisc

4) The interface is being configured as follows:

ifconfig ep0 inet <ip address> netmask 0xffffff00 link0 link1

5) IP addresses for the local name server, internet gateway, and the node
itself were added to etc/hosts

6) etc/myname contains the name of the node itself

7) no changes have been made to etc/rc, etc/rc.local, etc/netstart since
installation

8) I have checked the physical connection and have determined that IP
address is not used by another node on the net.

9) ps -x reveals that inetd and routed are running

Now the symptoms -

1) I can ping the local interface (call it mynode) from the console
2) I cannot ping anything else on the local net from mynode
3) I cannot ping mynode from another node on the local net
4) I used a sniffer on the local net and can see the ethernet packets
exchanged between mynode and other nodes on the net when a ping is issued
but I see nothing when I sniff for IP packets.

I suspect that I have improperly configured something here. However, I am
not sure where to look at this point. Any ideas????

TIA
