What the last sentence says is:

 You can still use a standard keyboard and monitor as the console.

 If a serial console is detected, then the patch forces /dev/ttya to be
 the console.

I don't know the SPARC port, but assume that /dev/ttya is where a serial
console attaches, if you have one.  Now, whether that's what actually
happens, I dunno.  But that's what the sentence says.
