 This does not even appear to be RISC-V-specific. I can reproduce the same 
 symptoms with an NVMe 1.4 SSD in an Orange Pi 5 (aarch64).
 
 The Orange Pi runs productively with an NVMe 1.1 SSD. That SSD put into 
 the VisionFive also results in a working system.
